Ice Cream

Ice cream carries no direct therapeutic benefit for a sore throat, but sometimes it just feels good.  In addition to ice cream being a fun treat, the coldness can also help numb the throat, or at least temporarily reduce the sensation of pain.

It should be noted, however, that if you sore throat is the result of mucus, you may want to reconsider eating ice cream.  Dairy products are thought to contribute to mucus production and for this reason, some people avoid dairy entirely when they have a cold.  There are alternatives, however, such as dairy-free ice cream type products, Italian ice, etc.

Also be aware of the calories contained in ice cream.  If you’re on a strict diet, eating ice cream may throw everything off.  And even if you’re not on diet, some ice cream brands have really high levels of saturated fats, so always check the label to make sure you’re getting the kind that is best for you.
